The one tour that puts you on the Duomo's north terraces — corridors closed to general visitors — before you climb inside Brunelleschi's cupola for the frescoes and the highest view in Florence.

Most people who visit the Florence Duomo see it from the piazza and, if they are lucky with a dome slot, from the very top. This tour adds the part almost everyone misses: the north terraces, the narrow galleries that run along the roofline more than 30 metres up, normally off-limits to independent visitors. You reach them on foot with a licensed guide who has already booked your timed access, so there is no queue to negotiate on the day.
From the terraces the tour continues up into Brunelleschi's dome itself. You climb between its two shells — the engineering trick that let it stand without scaffolding — and come out beneath Vasari and Zuccari's enormous Last Judgment before stepping onto the lantern platform at the top. Your guide sets up the cathedral and the dome's story first, so the 463 steps have a point beyond the cardio. Afterwards, a 72-hour complex pass leaves you free to take Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistery, the crypt and the Opera del Duomo Museum at your own pace.
Terrace and dome slots are timed and sell out well ahead in peak season — secure yours on the operator's page.

Kara J. · May 2026You get about fifteen minutes at the very top before the one-way flow moves you on, so have your camera ready — but the history our guide packed in beforehand made those minutes count.
Laura R. · June 2026The terraces were the surprise: a completely different angle on the cathedral, with hardly anyone else up there. Reserved access meant no waiting around.
